Overview
Few factors can impact the success of your company as much as the performance of your supply chain. No matter what industry or region of the world you do business in, your supply chain is as integral to your success as your products, your services, and your people.

The last century witnessed enormous increase in productivity along with great improvement in manufacturing technology brought by market competition among others. Many companies have developed to such a stage where further improvements internally become slim and harder and harder to achieve.

As the world economy becomes more and more globalized, goods have to move longer distance with many more changeover transactions, while customers with choices worldwide are requesting for faster and more flexible responses. Companies, especially global ones, are finding themselves incapable or not cost effective to conduct alone their business activities and customer services worldwide. As a result, they must work more closely with their business partners on a cooperative basis to achieve their supply chain efficiency and effectiveness. Logistics has become central and vital to its functioning.

Integrated supply chain and logistics management is thus becoming recognized as a core competitive strategy. Thanks to the advanced information technology especially the Internet, it not only makes the efficient supply chain coordination possible, but also allows sophisticated models to be used for reducing the costs towards supply chain and network optimization.
